Animation introduction(seventh week)

11/11/2021

This week we will be making up a story for our school area: elephant castle. The theme of the story is to imagine the origin of the name ‘elephant castle’ and to use imagination only, without access to real references. We will be working in groups to create an artist book to tell the story. The book can be in any form and can take any (non-normal) shape according to our imagination.

Our group’s story is that: long time ago, elephants were considered a symbol of luck, so a kingdom used army to capture an elephant and imprison it in the kingdom in order to bring luck back to the country. The elephant was so depressed, but the kingdom said to him, “Take me with you and run away! Eventually the elephant and the kingdom came together in the area that came to be known as Elephant Castle.

To make the artist book, our group got straws and paper bags from the cafe and made them look like a castle (as shown in the picture) and then snapped a round hole in the middle to act as a window to show the plot of the story. We then used paper cut-outs to make a cage to catch the elephant, the elephant, the mouth of the castle and so on. The whole process was great fun!
